I was 16 years old when my father got sick and I had to drop out of school. I grew up in Indianapolis and I was the youngest of five children. It was just the five of us and my father, my mother was never around. So when my dad got sick it tore me apart. I was scared I had to do what I needed to do for my family even if that means setting myself back in the long run. I spent years taking care of my father. He had surgery and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. It seemed like my whole entire world started to fall apart. My dad made me promise to one day finish school and make a life for myself. On February 1st, 2016 I lost my father. That was the day my life changed forever. I left Indianapolis and moved to Alexandria Indiana. I promised my dad I would go back to school and finish, one of my friends told me about the excel center. I took a leap of faith and enrolled in 2019. I started work 12 credits and had 28 to go. When school started to get hard, I gave up, one of my teachers Mr. Eric gave me the motivation I needed to come back and finish for my dad. He recommended Ms. Katie’s pharmacy technician course since health care was an interest of mine. I was scared because a lot of people have said it was a very hard certification and not every one passes the course. But I dove in head first to the class and it was absolutely amazing I learned so much. I love the clues Ms Katie taught to remember things , I loved how she went above and beyond for every student. I am now nationally certified and pursuing a career as a pharmacy technician at CVS in Tipton. I owe all of this to the staff at the excel center and Ms.Katie! This one’s for you Dad xoxo
