My name is Jasmine Walat and what brought me to KLR was through my school at the Excel Center Meadows. I was looking for a certification that I could take while attending, specifically somewhere medical so I could follow after my mother and most of my family who are also in the medical field. However, I knew I didn’t want to be a nurse or one working directly with patients giving shots, performing surgeries, or anything of the sort and I was introduced to the Pharmacy Tech certification. I was informed a little about what it was and it very well intrigued me and I decided to go ahead and go for it. I began July 31st through September 22nd. I was born and raised in Indianapolis Indiana where my mom worked as a CNA at a nursing facility. Since a young age me and my sister loved going with my mother to her job and "work" with her. We were allowed to help with small things like laundry, set the tables and meet the residents who resided in the nursing home and built bonds with many of them. There wasn’t a single resident that I didn’t know and care for. I found it very satisfying to help those in need and offer a sense of companionship or in their case a "Grandchild" especially to the ones who didn’t have family to come and visit them. They really enjoy seeing us join my mother in her shiftily rounds and looked forward to seeing us every time and we always had a good laugh while my mother did her duties and prepared their medications which we got to hand over some times under supervision and close proximity to my mother. After a while however some events took place and we ended up moving to Arizona for our safety. From there my mom began to come down with illness more frequently and her health was gradually deteriorating. With that said, we had many hospital visits and stays with her and she had a large quantity of pills she needed to take on a daily and thats when my fascination for medicine began. Me and my sister had the opportunity to aid our mother with her meds giving them at the correct time and with the proper meals. I loved counting and pulling out just the right amount she needed and organizing them neatly into her pill trays and containers to prepare for the following day. So now back to the present, I feel that is one main reason I really decided to go ahead and go get my certification because I knew it would be a nice area for me in the medical field since I wouldn’t need to worry about patients needing to be sewn up or rushing into the hospital. It always broke my heart seeing them in such pain and as a Pharmacy tech I’d most likely be the one helping them with any after math pain with out dealing with the situation itself. The class that I took for my certification was truly amazing and beyond what I expected. I thought I would struggle day one to the end but that wasn’t the case. I had plenty of help from our instructors and even from classmates and I never felt embarrassed to not know something. I learned something new every day and it was truly a great experience. I plan to move forward and get my diploma so that I can pursue this career and maybe start out in retail and expand once I have more experience. Thankyou, so much to everyone at KLR that really allowed me to start my journey!!Â
